The last scenario (FlowDocument in HTML) is particularly compelling:
- You can leverage your existing site.
- If you have your article content in XML, it’s easy to create another XSLT transform to XAML.
- Your content continues to be viewable by everyone, with a better experience for WPF users.

I have the correct version of WinFX loaded, but when I go to the MoneyTips.html page, I get neither the flow document or the html content in the IFRAME.
Are you able to run the other parts of the app? What is your machine set up (browser, WinFX version, OS)?

Thanks for your reply Karen. Yes, I am able to run the other parts of the application just fine. I am using Windows XP SP 2. I have the correct version of the WinFX runtime, 3.0.50727. I am also using IE 6 iwth the latest and greatest updates.

I have the same issue as Jason on a XP SP2 + WinFx Beta 2 + Orcas VS extensions machine: the FinanceApplication.xbap is working just fine with its great 3D “rotatable” charts but impossible to get the FlowDocument from MoneyTips.htm

Matthieu, are you getting that exception at app start up? If not, what are you doing before you hit the exception?

Yes, it seems there is a rendering problem with MoneyTips.htm. If the FlowDocument is not visible at the time of first rendering, it will not display anything. The solution is to scroll down so that the FlowDocument is on screen and refresh the page.
Configuration: Win 2003 Server SP1 + WinFX Beta 2.
Valentin, I was able to see the FlowDocument after I did as you suggested. However, even after that, the FlowDocument is only at the bottom of the page, but I don’t believe that is how it is supposed to work.
I think the reason is that I have hardcoded widths for the article content and IE6 renders the widths slightly different, pushing it further down on the page. Will try to work on a solution and reply back.
I know you mentioned that you are not sharing the source at this time. Do you think this is going to happen in the near future? I have POC that involves wpf and it would greatly help to get my hands on the code.

Is the Woodgroove app able to run in XP SP2 and IE 7 and .NET 3.0? I have just downloaded and installed them all. I am trying to show the higher ups at what is available and what is coming so I can get myself a new machine to play. 🙂

Ok looking at it more I found that when I first visit the site the error reads, “Cannot locate resource ‘myapp.baml'”
In searching for reasons for this error I found some saying it is due to culture settings.

Did you previously have an older version of WPF installed?
Try clearing your application cache (it may have been corrupted).
mage -ccmage.exe is shipped with the Windows Vista SDK & Visual Studio.
I started with a freash install of XP Pro SP2 then installed the IE 7 Beta 3 then installed the latest .NET 3.0 Framework. This system does not have any developement tools installed.
When I get back into the office on Monday I will try your suggestion.

Karen, there is already July CTP of .NET 3.0 Framework and your demo doesn’t start.

This looks like the result of a WPF upgrade & a mismatched Windows Imaging Components.

Karen, hi, excelent demo… Now, I’m trying to POC this WPF thing and this stuff is exactly the kind of display I am after. I can find tons of demos with walkthroughs and code that work on Avalon from the days of yore (okay so last year) but trying to find something of this level that works of the WPF of today is proving a challenge.
If you guys aren’t planning on sharing the code on this one in the very near future, then can you point us at a similar example where we can find the code and don’t need to port it from Olde English to June CTP?

How microsoft not sharing any source code for any real samples they are developing….Max is doing the same, i am trying to get into WPF and a real world sample will help a lot…..instead of this is how you use tab and this is how you use button…..i really wonder, do they really want people to use WPF???
Just tried the RC1 version. MoneyTips displays fine but MyFinances raises an Application error. There’s a log file I can send if you let me know where to. The Error Summary is:-
* An exception occurred while downloading the application. Following failure messages were detected:
Exception occurred during store operation.
Value does not fall within the expected range.
I had run magc -cc before trying to run the XBAP.
I’d love to see this working.

Is it just me or is the performance really bad? For example, clicking on one of the “Show Performance” buttons freezes IE for several minutes, with PresentationHost.exe running at CPU max. This also happens occasionlly when I simply try to scroll the symbol or news window. I’m running Vista RC2 #5744 here.

Hi Sachin,
The error you’re getting is normally the result of a version mismatch.
In order to run this, you should have the RC1 or RTM build of .NET 3.0.
If you had a previous build of .NET 3.0 on your machine, please try running “mage.exe -cc” to clear your application cache.

It appears you can call WCF web services with xbaps now, which I guess makes things easier. My problem is I still don’t know enough about WCF to really make any use of it. I was wondering if you could put together a sample that calls an external API such as Live search and returns a users search to them (partial-trust mode). That would explain how to make practical use of an XBAP in my opinion. Either REST or SOAP it doesn’t matter that much as long as I can interact with an external API. Thanks for writing this really informative post!
