Starbucks in the Forbidden City?

My friend Peter recently sent me a link about Chinese public opinion & the Forbidden City Starbucks. I first heard about the controversy last November, when my parents were in Beijing.  It was only a month and a half after I snapped the picture below, but they had trouble finding the Starbucks: the sign was no longer there.  (My dad tried to take a photo of the inside of the Starbucks, but they wouldn’t let him.)  Interestingly, my original post with this picture now has with 2093 hits…

Walt Disney Concert Hall

It’s become a family tradition to go to a Christmas concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.  This year, we saw the Escovedo Family Orchestra’s Latin Celebration.  It was an excellent show – lively jazz with a latin soul.  And Sheila Escovedo on the drums was amazing.

Photo Screen Saver

Using my new template, I wanted to create a screen saver for my photos.  I liked the look of the Picasa screen saver and wanted to see if I accomplish something similar in WPF.  Below is the result.  The photos animate in & out to random locations.  It’s also configurable to show photos from any directory on your machine. You can get the screen saver here.   To Install Be sure you have .NET Framework 3.0.   (If you’re running Vista, you’re good to go!) Download the ZIP file and Extract All files. Weather

Last month was Seattle’s wettest month in 115 years.  We had 16.63 inches of precipitation.  Three weeks ago, we got hit with a snow storm.  Today we’re being blasted with high winds, which has resulted in closed bridges, massive power outages and more. Ah…. mother nature.

La Boca

La Boca is a barrio in Buenos Aires.  Back in the day, the Italian immigrants used left over paint to spruce up the metal sidings of their homes.  The result is the colorful touristy street of Caminito.  Unfortunately, it’s recommended not to wander off the tourist areas out of safety concerns.   me, posing.. those large statues were everywhere tourist posing with his mate street art for sale. table for two         windows tango at lunch.
