No Longer Giddy About the Snow

So it turns out… snow can be a pain in the ass. On Thursday, when the snow started, I was really excited. It was beautiful, seeing the city coated in a blanket of white. However, 3 days of being really cold, falling down a lot, and not easily getting where you want to go… is starting to aggravate me. Tomorrow, I fly down to Southern California for Christmas. Or, at least, I’m going to try to. The weather people have 40 more hours of flurries predicted. UPDATED 12/22: Still in Seattle, two canceled flights later… Hoping I actually make it …

Global Warming (aka Snow Day in Seattle)

This morning, I woke up to a snowy Pike Place Market. We’ve been hearing snow warnings all week. Yesterday, all the schools were closed and most of Microsoft stayed home. But there wasn’t any snow. Today, the snow finally arrived! It’s still coming down hard, with really big flakes. And it’s sticking – which normally doesn’t happen downtown. As a Southern Californian girl, I’m totally snow giddy. πŸ™‚ Here’s a cameraphone photo of me at Pike Place Photos from my “big” camera coming soon.

Happy Holidays!

I was home sick today… there’s a massive bug going around work.  I was pretty useless sitting on my couch, so I decided to make a holiday Silverlight card.   And if you’re thinking….                 wow, that’s really ugly. … or …                 that looks like a 7 year old’s crayon drawing. … you’re absolutely right.     I have no design skills (as my officemate likes to continuously point out.) Hope you enjoy it anyways!  πŸ™‚   See the full post, if you’re reading my feed and can’t see the card!

Photo Series

My photo class last spring had a final project.  I finally finished editing it.  (I cheated a little bit and replaced the opening photo with one that I took before the class started… but it really fit the theme, so oh well.  πŸ™‚ ) You can see the series as a slideshow.  (For best viewing, uncheck “Options” -> “Embiggen small things to fill screen”) I hope you enjoy it.

“Understanding” the Financial Crisis

A few months ago, I listened to the “The Giant Pool of Money” episode on “This American Life.”  It gave the most understandable explanation of the sub-prime mortgage crisis that I’ve heard. Now, the same folks tackle the bailout question in “Another Frightening Show About the Economy“. A preview of it can also be found here: β€œIs The Bailout Worth It?β€œ  The preview is posted on a new podcast and blog called β€œPlanet Money,” which is done by some of the same folks and covers the ongoing economic situation. Anyways, both “This American Life” episodes (“The Giant Pool of Money” …

Randomness: Rent-a-Ruminant

On the bus this morning, I saw about 20 goats wandering around the Plymouth Pillars dog park in Capitol Hill.  Yes, I said goats. There was a “Rent-a Ruminant” sign hanging – quite simply, this company “brings [their] goats to your location to eat a wide range of vegetation, such as blackberries, ivy, and other invasive species. ”  Clever.  πŸ™‚
